A report from Dave Ling our
Chairman still doing good work for Young Farmers
I judged the Bedfordshire Young
Farmers Event at Manor Farm Stagsden which was hosted by the Bedford
Y.F.C.
The day started with the Juniors with four teams teams taking
part.Silsoe A and B,Leighton Buzzard and Biggleswade,pulling with
six a side mixed teams and after some good pulling Silsoe A won with
Silsoe B as Runners Up.
Next came the ladies with five teams Woburn, Leighton Buzzard,
Bedford,North Beds and Silsoe. This started with the weather
lookinga bit black and threatening .Winners Silsoe with Woburn
Runners Up.
The mens pulling took place with the weather getting worse and six
teams entered, North Beds, Bedford, Biggleswade, Leighton Buzzard;
Silsoe and Woburn. This finished in a torrential downpour with
lightening and hail. Woburn won this without dropping an end
and Leighton Buzzard Runners Up. During this competition a lady was
holding an umbrella for me it was hit by the lightening twice
with sparks coming down the handle. Apart from the weather it was a
very good and even competition and I look forward to the Rally in
about a month.

A Page out of Jenny's Book
photo
fossil
Jenny is the official photographer for the Federation.
She is the Mum of the anchorman for Holland ( Pylon)
This is the start of a new season and I have photo's coming in that
I can hardly use, no one expects you to become a professional
photographer, but a few simple rules from Jenny's book will give us
all a great deal of pleasure. Especially in the winter when you want
to look back over the year.
Here are a couple of examples

Three ways TOWC pulling at Leicester
Photo Jenny.
The first one is a good clean shot from the front of the team
showing everybody. even though the team are all over the place.
there's good background too. It says who they are and where, and who
took it.
They say a photo; is a second out of time, and sometimes that is all
you get to capture it.

The second is a picture taken by an excited fan who took a picture
of what they were looking at, not what the camera sees, it's over
blown and grainy, The crowd in the middle of the field don't help,
there is nothing to say who it is, where it was, or who took it.
To encourage you to give the
pictures you send in a little more thought, I'm going to award a little prize
each month for
The Picture of the Month,

Meeting of the Joint Committee Association / Federation
Saturday 26th January 2012 – Roman Way Hotel, Three
Hammers PH, Chiswell Green
Present: P. Dyer A. Ludkin D. Ling G Corden Apologies: Maurice
Simons
At the opening of
the meeting Dave (Ling) introduced Gavin (Corden) as the new Vice
Chairman of the Federation. Pete and Alan had previously been
informed that Steve Gardner had stood down in his role as Vice
Chairman and fixture secretary due to personal problems with the
health of members of his family. He was also standing down from
Holland Sports. Pete and Alan said Steve would be missed and wished
him and his family well.
With Gavin now
onboard with the Joint Committee Dave, Pete and Alan reiterated some
of the objectives we had set out to achieve and where we thought we
were. One of the key objectives was for the two organisations to
work together for the benefit of tug of war, and to resolve any real
or perceived issues between the organisations. All concerned felt
that we had moved a long way forward from where we were a couple of
years ago when we first met.
We discussed the
joint events from last year at Ashbourne Highland Gathering and
Kessingland. It was felt both of these went well, and should be
repeated again this season. It was suggested that the Kessingland
event should be a ‘true’ joint event over the two days and not one
day the Association and one day the Federation. This was agreed by
all present.
Dave said that at
their AGM they had voted in a change to their rules that would now
allow them to start with seven pullers. Pete and Alan commended this
as it brought our rules another step closer.
A discussion took
place on each of the organisations rules and, not withstanding that
the Association AGM had just ratified the resolution to continue to
pull under TWIF rules (adapted appropriately), it was felt that
there was probably not that big a difference between the rules. All
agreed that it would be a useful exercise to compare the two sets of
rules in detail and establish where the differences were.
It was confirmed
that we should also try and work together to get some alignment of
fixtures which would support the Associations objective in the
Forward plan to develop a ‘3 zone’ fixture list as presented at the
2011 AGM.
All agreed the
meetings were still fruitful and to have the next meeting in around
six months.

Please
note changes to Rule 9a
which now means teams can weigh-in with Seven pullers
ALSO
A reminder
to teams that they must invite Judges & recorders for their Club Competitions.
The Fixture Secretary only invites officials to
those competitions put on by the Federation. i.e. Training
Leagues, Intercounties, and Premiere Leagues ext.
Please do it in good time to avoid
disappointment.
